The miso soup here is a standout, often described as “umami and flavorful,” though it can be a touch salty for some. The assorted sushi and chirashi bowls have garnered favorable remarks, with particular appreciation for the quality of fish and the generous serving sizes.
Be prepared for a slow-paced experience—this two-person operation may lead to longer waits, but the quality of food and the kindness radiating from the owners create an inviting atmosphere. As customer Emily C. shared, “It’s a long wait, but I truly enjoy the quality and amount of food you get for your money.”
In essence, Sushi Miyagi offers more than just a meal; it’s an experience steeped in tradition and love for Japanese cuisine. Come for the sushi, but stay for the warm, hospitable embrace of a family-run establishment that doesn’t compromise on quality.
Whether you’re indulging in their spicy hotate nigiri or savoring a rich plate of soba noodles, sushi aficionados will find their cravings satisfied at this quaint spot. Don’t forget to arrive early, as the lines can stretch beyond patience, but the rewards of flavorful bites are undeniably worth the wait!

One of the best sushi spots in Houston! Price is reasonable for the amount of fresh fish you get per order. It's a mom and pop shop with the sweetest woman waiting on the tables.

Best little straightforward sushi spot to satisfy my sushi cravings. I haven't had miso soup like how this place makes theirs - SO good, umami, and flavorful, but have heard it can be a tad salty for some people. I ordered the assorted sushi from the main menu. It comes with 3 of each thick cuts of tuna, salmon, and hamachi nigiri. I thought there was a little bit too much wasabi between the fish and rice, coming from a person who enjoys a little spice. The salmon bowl is as advertised - several pieces of fatty salmon with pickled radish over a bed of rice. Some may think rice ratio is too much, but I think it's needed to cut through the richness of the fish.

Delicious, cheap sushi with a quaint atmosphere. The service was so delightful. Would come back! In the photo: (not in order!) Spicy salmon Crazy maki Shaggy maki Alaska maki

Decent sushi for the price. I love the chopped scallop nigiri and the rolls. The sashimi lunch set is great value. We also got a chirashi bowl but I wouldnt prder it here next time. I would say Hokkaido sushi chirashi is a better value lol Please only come here if you have time to kill. Service may be slow because husband is the only chef and wife is the only waitress. They provide great customer service so please be patient .

Despite the rise of vibe dining omakase spots, the sushi scene in Houston is still limited and the Japanese-owned demographic is virtually nil. Sushi Miyagi has been the exception to the norm and is run by a sweet older Japanese couple that add to the charm of what might be Houston's least pretentious sushi spot. Located on the Vietnamese side of Bellaire Asiatown, Sushi Miyagi is about as easy to miss as any business in this nondescript plaza. Had it not been for a friend's urging, I probably would have never made it here. Due to limited hours, lunch time is practically the only time one can eat here. It is also incredibly popular and wait times are expected. This is not a group friendly experience, but more of a small group or lunch date kind of space. It is dingy and dated, but the service and food more than makes up for it. It is worth repeating that there is nothing fancy here. The older Japanese gentleman is typically cooking and cutting all the fish. The cuts of which I've had have been excellent, with thick slabs of quality fish. Their charashi bowl was an excellent choice, but the omakase really gave them a chance to shine and it was outstanding all around. Unlike the counterside, course by course, trendy omakase experience that most people are used to, mine was all made and served on a single plate. $65 later, I'm full and extremely satisfied. The highlights were the hamachi yellow tail and foodgasm worthy toro tuna belly. It was a perfect variety of what they had to offer and would highly recommend it for anyone who is serious about their fish. The older lady serving everyone is such a gem. She is constantly smiling and doing her best to make sure everyone is tended to. Parking is never going to be an issue and I hope they stay continue to run this excellent business for as long as time permits. Given how little recognition they, it would be safe to say this is one of the most underrated places in all of Houston.

This is my favorite restaurant! It maybe a long wait since it's a mom and pop shop but the I enjoy the quality and amount of food you get for your money. The owners are really nice!

One of Houston greatest gems. A very honest operated mom and pop restaurant. There's usually a full house upon walking in. Their tatami room use to be open to the public :(, now it serves as a storage space. Their must get is the spicy hotate nigiri! I love their udon and seaweed salad as well. Their kitchen items are pretty good here. Be mindful of how big their portions are too!! Service wise, because it's only a 2 man show. It does get super backed up. Coming here for a "quick lunch break" isn't a good idea. I did the same & ended up going back to work late. My food came out an hour & a half later so I just asked for a to-go box & the check. Make sure you come here with lots of patience. Overall food is very good but service is too slow.

Finally had a day off to try this hole in the wall weird hour sushi spot!! And it did not disappoint the portion sizes are HUGEEEE! The chopped scallop was sooo thick and full of scallop and look at that thick slice of yellow tail! Between that and the chirashi bowl I was actually stuffed! The sizes and bowl were so good can't wait for my next day off!

Nut allergies: No nuts in sushi, of course. The advice to get here early is no joke. We actually got here at 11 on a Saturday and there was no line, so we walked over to another plaza for a bit. When we came back by 11:30, there were already three groups in line! We got one of the last tables. The wait if you arrive late is 90-100 minutes, so I'd try to get here at 1pm or 2pm if you miss the opening wait and hope that others have been dissuaded. The first table opened up at 1:10PM and people were definitely waiting. If you're in for an intimate experience with a long meal with friends with amazing sushi while listening to Ocarina of Time music, this is the place to be. A little hidden gem in a side of Bellaire that isn't often frequented, Sushi Miyagi is run by an elderly Japanese couple that only opens a few hours a day. You can really tell how much care goes into the food here, as tea is even served at a very reasonable price ($1 for hot tea with a full kettle to refill!) For a group of 5, we ordered the Sashimi for 2, Maki for 2, and a lunch rice curry special. The sashimi for 2 was so big that we thought they combined both our orders into one! The lunch rice curry was enough for five people to have 3-4 bites each. The sashimi was absolutely stellar - large pieces that are sliced perfectly against grains to still be melt-in-your-mouth delicious. The pickled Mackerel may have changed my whole perspective on Mackerel - extremely fatty and very flavorful! Other highlights were the chopped scallops and eel. Came out at just under $50 after tax and tip and our group left stuffed! We left around 1:35PM. I'd love to come back when I want an intimate sushi experience and the weather isn't too hot to wait outside.

Come early! Sometimes people wait about 30 mins before they open because tables fill up fast. Mr and Mrs miyagi are super kind and always on the move to serve customers as fast as they can. It is absolutely worth the wait to eat here and I've recommended it to all my friends. I always come here for our anniversary. The pieces are HUGE and the quality reminds me of sushi from Japan. MUST TRY the agedashi tofu, soba noodles, Japanese curry over rice, crispy salmon salad and the sushi of course. Who am I kidding, everything is good here LOL Parking is in a plaza. I can't sing enough praise about this spot!
